The new Zetter Townhouse and Cocktail Bar

The Zetter Townhouse is a new boutique hotel in Clerkenwell that has opened across the square at St John’s square. The new addition, created from 2 converted Georgian  has 11 rooms and 2 suites and will open to guests from April 18th. I was having dinner in the area with some friends and dropped in here for drinks after.

The interior design was done by Russel Sage (who is also redecorating the bridal suite at the Goring Hotel for Will and Kate’s wedding) and is done in a truly eclectic way. Walking into the hotel, the first room is not like a hotel lobby at all but more like entering a mad aunt’s house, with a scattering of faded chesterfields, stuffed fish, cats, kangaroos and other oddities. There are so many quirky little pieces scattered around the cocktail bar, you won’t be bored if you are on a blind date with nothing to talk about.  Look out for the globe that is not a globe and the punching kangaroo in the private dining room. At the end of this room is the apothecary style bar. They have done a great job making this warm, comfortable and interesting. The only problem is, it’s at the other end of London, if only they will open something similar in West London, I will move in.

The Zetter Townhouse Cocktail Bar

There is a games room hidden in the basement with a full size table tennis table. I didn’t have a chance to see any of the hotel rooms but I hear that each room has an individual theme and they must be so much fun. I will definitely be back to check in for a mini break soon.

The Zetter Townhouse Cocktail Bar

The cocktail bar at the Zetter Townhouse is run by Tony Conigliaro, who has desiged a range of experimental cocktails from his lab above 69 Colbrooke Row.

We tried a few of the cocktails and then tasted each of the experimental cordials and tinctures that they have created for the cocktails (all £8.50) . These were nettle cordial, rhubard cordial, gunpowder tea tincture, lemon sherbert, lemon barley, alcohol free port evaporation and the infamous parsley vodka.

There is a bar food menu created by Bistro Bruno Loubet and the quirkiness of the venue only has a mild effect on the menu which features a selection of charcuterie, a mug of soup and various other.

Everything is at the pre launch offer of 50% off the bill until Sunday 17th April.
